Author Gordon Atkinson “is more widely known to a large online readership simply as ’The Preacher,’ having posted many honest, witty, probing reflections on the blog called RealLivePreacher.com [2002-2010]. Within months of the blog’s start in late 2002,” materialmedia.com reports, “thousands of people were coming to read Atkinson’s latest postings.” Four dozen of these were mustered to create this newest featured book.

“He writes about the small and everyday moments,” Goodreads observes. “His writing is not sugarcoated like so many books on faith…. There is heartache, pain, aggravation, friendship, and joy….” As one reader declared, “Any ordained minister who…admits that…he’s as much an atheist as he is a believer is my kind of guy.”

Which may explain this—Atkinson is speaking: “I left the ministry in 2020”—he’d served Covenant Baptist Church in San Antonio for two decades—“and later fell even farther away from churchy things. I simply didn’t have the voice of Real Live Preacher anymore. I killed that voice when I left that world.” He’s now artist in residence at Wizard Academy, which describes itself as a “non-traditional, non-profit, non-boring business school.”
