“If you would like to know more about the woman who may sit in the Oval Office chair next January,” the Indianapolis Recorder prods, “read it now….” “It” is The Truths We Hold, authored by America’s vice-president, Kamala Harris. In it, National Public Radio opines, “Harris presents herself as a potentially formidable presidential candidate. …she efficiently makes her case, like the prosecutor she is.” And she points up the values and inspirations that guide her life.

True, it’s five years old, and some of her positions “have shifted,” as The Washington Post points out—they’re coming to be watered down. Still, “the book illuminates Harris’s philosophy and aspirations, and the qualities she brings to a national presidential campaign.” David Smith, the Washington correspondent for both Britain’s The Guardian and The Observer, reckons the book “serves its purpose: personal integrity shines through every page.”

In it, she “goes on the record, unequivocally, with the core principles that drive her,” the New York Journal of Books affirms, adding, “[Y]ou can’t say she’s afraid to speak her mind.” For Daily Drafts & Dialogues, K.E. Creighton expresses her appreciation for “how her memoir ended with a sincere, well laid out call to action for everyone.”
