Like years past, Bissell is gathering toys for children 0-17 in our community and would love your support. This year they’re adding another group of folks in need of holiday cheer: residents at our Hope Terrace supportive housing building. At Hope Terrace, Bissell provides 24/7 supportive housing for folks living with FASD!

If you wish to support kiddos, you can check out our Amazon Wishlists HERE for inspiration and you can even have toys delivered directly to us! For our creative elves among you, the items listed are just examples – you are more than welcome to choose something similar or entirely different that you feel would make a child’s holiday brighter.

If you would like to support one of our Hope Terrace residents, each resident has given us a wishlist of items with a $100 budget. You can shop for the specific items on their wishlist – or – send us $100 and volunteers will shop for you – whichever is simplest for you.

SSUC is seeking one more volunteer to deliver donations to Bissell on December 15th. Please contact the office if you are able to help.

Bring your donations to the church by Sunday, December 15th; they will be delivered that day.

No Room in the Inn Christmas Eve Offering

2024’s No Room in the Inn Campaign is supporting Youth Empowerment & Support Services (YESS) to replace the roof on their Whyte Ave. facility in Edmonton. YESS‘s Whyte Avenue Facility houses their Youth Support Centre (YSC). The YSC is an evolution in youth care and crisis management.

This year SSUC is splitting Christmas Eve donations between the No Room in the Inn Campaign, and SSUC’s operating budget.

Keep ThanksGIVING Going – Keep food donations going all year round!

Food insecurity is an ongoing challenge for many people, no matter what time of year.  It can affect anybody at any time.  According to Alberta Health Services, 1 in 5 households in Alberta experience food insecurity. This is a serious public health issue that negatively affects physical, mental, social wellbeing, and society as a whole.

SSUC proudly supports Keep ThanksGIVING Going activities all year long to make a difference. Current activities include:

  • Ongoing food donations (box located in the SSUC Food Bank Corner)
  • Periodic food drives during times when food donations usually decline. One person is needed to help coordinate our special January Foodbank drive. Contact the church for details.
  • Weekly distribution of Food Bank hampers.
