Welcome to Pride Month at SSUC!
Curious about what is happening? Read about this month's events below!
Queer art has and always will be a foundation of queer resilience. Queer music helps us see ourselves, love ourselves, and know ourselves.
That’s why this June we want to celebrate queer art and music through folx festival. A 2 day music and arts festival in the city of Edmonton. Individual event tickets and weekend passes are on sale now! Grab them here!
There will be volunteer opportunities galore so please email transrightsyeg@gmail.com if you’d like to participate!
This time of year, the long daylight hours invite us to slow down, bask, and stretch our weary limbs in the sun. This is a much-needed process, especially during high-energy demand months like Pride Month!
On June 21st, come along with us to Keheewin Park for some community connections and guided invitations to pause and appreciate not only the growing space around you – but the growing parts of yourself. We promise you’ll head home in the evening light feeling refreshed and softened. Bring your pals, or just yourself. This space is for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, but we heartily welcome allies and all ages.
Come as you are! Register for a free spot at emberwood.ca/campfire if you’d like to participate!
Join us on June 9th, for our Second Sunday Brunch from both the Affirm and Moving Forward to Reconciliation teams.
For Pride month and Indigenous Awareness Month, we will learn more about the intersections of Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ+ identities. Quinn Wade, Housing Project Manager for the Edmonton 2 Spirit Society, will tell us more about what it means to be 2 Spirited in the Indigenous community. Quinn will participate in a Q&A session after his short talk. Our menu will be a simple barbecue with some salads and dessert, there will be gluten-free and vegan options available.
If you would like to volunteer or donate food, please sign up here or in the foyer this Sunday. Hope to see you there!
Looking for another opportunity to slow down and breathe. Come check out another affirming space of rest where all are welcome.
Come try out breathwork with this introductory workshop. Breathwork is a wonderful way to connect to your body, regulate your nervous system, and process stored emotions.
In this class we will have space to set intentions, breathe along to relaxing music, and enjoy deep rest. No previous experience required.
You’re invited to an open, expansive, safe and calming time for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their allies.
We’ll honour all our emotions for the month of pride, acknowledge the work yet to do, and set intentions for the year ahead, including a ritual of holding our Pride month joy and anxieties in a personal, safe way.
Stay after for some light snacks and gentle chats!
This mid-month moment of pause will welcome the summer solstice!
Pride can be overwhelming, come for a quiet, self-guided walk in the labyrinth to centre your thoughts and calm your body. This “Greeting the Summer” Labyrinth Walk is scheduled for Friday, June 21st!
We are also looking for 4 volunteers to assist with set up and take down. Please contact Jo Nicholas at 780-435-2288 if you are willing to assist.
